Mt. Gox Disappears!

"Mt. Gox officials did not answer the telephone or respond to email requests for information. The concierge at the home of the chief executive, Mark Karpeles - an upscale apartment in the Shibuya district - said he was not answering his intercom. His mailbox was so stuffed with mail that the flap would not close."

Joint Statement about Mt.Gox

Joint Statement Regarding MtGox
Feb 24th, 2014

The purpose of this document is to summarize a joint statement to the Bitcoin community regarding Mt.Gox.

This tragic violation of the trust of users of Mt.Gox was the result of one company’s actions and does not reflect the resilience or value of bitcoin and the digital currency industry. There are hundreds of trustworthy and responsible companies involved in bitcoin. These companies will continue to build the future of money by making bitcoin more secure and easy to use for consumers and merchants.  As with any new industry, there are certain bad actors that need to be weeded out, and that is what we are seeing today.

We are confident, however, that strong Bitcoin companies, led by highly competent teams and backed by credible investors, will continue to thrive, and to fulfill the promise that bitcoin offers as the future of payment in the Internet age.

In order to re-establish the trust squandered by the failings of Mt. Gox, responsible bitcoin exchanges are working together and are committed to the future of bitcoin and the security of all customer funds. As part of the effort to re-assure customers, the following services will be coordinating efforts over the coming days to publicly reassure customers and the general public that all funds continue to be held in a safe and secure manner: Coinbase, Kraken, BitStamp, Circle, and BTC China.

We strongly believe in transparent, thoughtful, and comprehensive consumer protection measures. We pledge to lead the way.

Bitcoin operators, whether they be exchanges, wallet services or payment providers, play a critical custodial role over the bitcoin they hold as assets for their customers.  Acting as a custodian should require a high-bar, including appropriate security safeguards that are independently audited and tested on a regular basis, adequate balance sheets and reserves as commercial entities, transparent and accountable customer disclosures, and clear policies to not use customer assets for proprietary trading or for margin loans in leveraged trading.

The following industry leaders stand by this statement:

Fred Ehrsam — Co-founder of Coinbase

Jesse Powell — CEO of Kraken

Nejc Kodrič — CEO of Bitstamp.net

Bobby Lee — CEO of BTC China

Nicolas Cary — CEO of Blockchain.info

Jeremy Allaire — CEO of Circle

Get Ripples (XRP) for Free while using Computer for good.

For those that dont know Ripple is funded by google so here is a quick way to get some free xrp
First Sign up here for a ripple wallet: https://www.computingforgood.org/ then follow the directions to get a WCG login. To fund your wallet you need to "mine" using the program called boinc.

So for those of you who want more free XRP, I would direct you to DigitalOcean:

https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=66c41ef7177d
Scroll down to the bottom and put in the promocode first!
OMGSSD10
You can sign up using your e-mail, a password, a credit card number and this promo code:
(I used a gift card, to make sure it legit)

This will get you a free $10 credit, enough to open one small "droplet" for two month. But you can make 5 droplets if you want too

If the promo code expires check this site out for more:

http://www.retailmenot.com/s/digitalocean

Setting up a server on DigitalOcean is super easy. After you have signed up, you will be asked to create a droplet.

You will first enter a hostname, this can be whatever.
Then you'll select a size. I went with the smallest 1 CPU server, it will run for two months.
Select your region. I selected the one closest to home.
Then you will select the image, I would recommend Ubuntu 13.10 x 64.
Then you will create the droplet (it will take a minute.)

Your username (root) and password will be sent to your e-mail.

Once you have your password, you can connect to your server by clicking on the Access button and then by clicking Console Access. This will open a shell in your browser. Once you are in the shell, you have two commands to enter:

sudo apt-get install boinc-client
boinccmd --project_attach http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ <your weak account key here, no angle brackets>
The URL in the above command will not be underlined when you enter the command in the shell.

Note: nothing obvious will happen when you enter the second command.
Now type the word "TOP" you should see Boinc running now... Enjoy

As always, tips are appreciated and good luck:

Sacramento Kings to accept Bitcoin

The Sacramento Kings announced Thursday that they would become the first professional sports franchise to accept Bitcoin virtual currency. Beginning on March 1, fans will be able to buy gear in the team store and pay for tickets with the digital money. "When I sold the NBA on keeping the team in Sacramento, my pitch included using the sports franchise as a social network to push the technology envelope," Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive told ESPN.com. "This is an example of that." [+] EnlargeBitcoin Sean Gallup/Getty ImagesSacramento Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadive hopes accepting Bitcoin virtual currency is the next step in allowing fans to keep their wallets at home. Ranadive said that the acceptance of Bitcoin is one step closer to allowing fans to keep their wallets at home, thanks to what will eventually be a ticketless and cashless environment at the arena. The Dark Horse of Cryptocurrency – Franko

The Franko motto: Non nobis solum sed omnibus! With new crypto-currencies popping up on an hourly basis, it’s no surprise that a great one could be overlooked. In the past, it was easy to be informed about Bitcoin and Altcoins, like Litecoin. We only had a few selections and the bad ones were weeded out quickly. As time progressed the standards of acceptability deteriorated. At one time the sheer thought of a premine, no matter the size, was completely absurd but today they are common place.. Today we see coins hitting million dollar market-caps overnight even if the purpose of the coin is a joke. Read more.... HERE

You can now use Bitcoin to generate tax revenue for Colorado by buying Marijuana

September 9th 2013 the Colorado Department of Revenue created the final regulations for Marijuana use and sale, implementing the Colorado Retail Marijuana Code. January 1st 2014 the first official stores has opened for Marijuana sale. The twist however is that you cannot pay for the legal Marijuana with your VISA or Mastercard. You can only use hard cash or Bitcoin. Matt Miller from Bloomberg explains that: You can only spend cold hard cash, you cant pay for your weed even for medical use with a credit or debit card. I guess the Banks are unwilling to get into this business yet. Read more at... HERE

China and Cryptocoins

SO for a while now, China has been leading the waves when it comes to bitcoins price.. The Chinese coin markets are holding the most volume and the price has been following that volume. And as we have expected for some time, the Chinese govt has been watching this. So today, they decided to release some rules and statements regarding bitcoin, which was followed quickly by a small crash in the overall bitcoin price. Heres a link about the news: China Restricts Banks' Use of Bitcoins but what is really happening? Honestly to me it seems as though this is the same thing that happened in the USA months ago: regulatory oversight.
Well, I present to you the actual statement from the Chinese governtment which I roughly translated using google, so let me know what YOU think!
Here it is:
"Q: how to define the nature of our current Bitcoin? A: Bitcoin has no central issuer, limited amount, using four main features without geographical restrictions and anonymity. Although some people called Bitcoin "currency", but because it is not issued by the monetary authorities, such as not having sex with mandatory legal tender currency property, not the true meaning of money. From the nature point of view, Bitcoin is a specific virtual goods, does not have legal status and monetary equivalent, can not and should not be used as currency in circulation in the market. Q: Bitcoin will focus on the risk of what? Are our existing financial system will have an impact? A: At present, the public for lack of adequate understanding of bitcoin, for some individuals to follow suit or speculative psychological hold, use and trade bitcoins. This property belongs to a particular look from Bitcoin virtual goods, there may be the following risks: First, the higher the risk of speculation. Bitcoin market smaller capacity, 24 hours of continuous open transaction, there is no price limit, the price likely to be opportunists control, resulting in volatility, the risk is great. Ordinary investors blindly follow easily suffer heavy losses. Meanwhile, the relevant market is still in bitcoin spontaneous state, there may be counterparty risk, financial risk and safety aspects of clearing and settlement risks, investors are difficult to effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests. The second is a higher risk of money laundering. Since Bitcoin transactions with anonymity and without geographical restrictions characteristics, its difficult to monitor capital flows, facilitated money laundering and terrorist financing activities. Third, the risk of being exploited criminals or organization. At present, the international community has emerged drugs, firearms use Bitcoin transactions carried out other criminal activities related cases have been investigated. Meanwhile, the position of each bit uneven currency trading site, some sites have not been legally registered, was arrested for operating; some websites security and anti-risk ability, prone to hacker attacks or escaped fled website operators and other events. From the current situation, due to the small amount of bitcoins, limited trading market, financial institutions are not directly involved in Bitcoin trading and investment activities, therefore, the risks associated with bitcoin is still not up to the impact of China's financial system degree. Q: People's Bank and other five ministries issued "on guard against the risk of Bitcoin notice" includes what the main content? A: The People's Bank has been highly concerned about Bitcoin trends, and keep track of the policies and measures relevant regulatory agencies around the world. December 3, in conjunction with the Ministry of the People's Bank, the CBRC, CSRC and CIRC issued the "People's Bank of China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Securities Regulatory Commission, China Insurance Regulatory Commission on the Prevention of risk bitcoin Notice "(Yin Fa [2013] No. 289, hereinafter referred to as" the "Notice" "), unless expressly bitcoin network virtual product attributes, the" notice "mainly clear the following: First, the explicit requirements of each stage, financial institutions and payment institutions may not conduct business associated with bitcoins are not allowed to bitcoin for a product or service pricing, may not be sold or traded bitcoins as a central counterparty shall not be covered by the insurance associated with bitcoins Bitcoin into business or insurance coverage and so on. Second, a clear request Bitcoin registration, transaction services such as Internet sites should be filed in the telecommunications regulatory agencies, and earnestly fulfill anti-money laundering obligations, the user identity identification, reporting of suspicious transactions. Third, the clear requirements of the relevant departments and financial institutions, payment institutions proper use of money concepts in their daily work, focused on strengthening the education of the public currency of knowledge, the correct understanding of the currency, a correct view of virtual goods and currencies, rational investment, reasonable control investment risk and safeguard their property and other concepts included in the content of financial literacy activities, and guide the public to establish a correct concept of money and investment philosophy. Q: What is the People's Bank of recent regulatory measures will be taken against Bitcoin transactions? A: Bitcoin transaction as a commodity trading behavior on the Internet, ordinary people at risk from the premise, with the freedom to participate. Next, the People's Bank will work with the relevant ministries, supervision of financial institutions, payment institutions and provide Internet stations Bitcoin registration, trading and other services to effectively implement the "notice" requirement. Meanwhile, the People's Bank will be based on their responsibilities and continue to pay close attention to the movements of Bitcoin and the risks associated with public money to further strengthen the knowledge, to guide the public to establish a correct concept of money and investment philosophy. (End)" I find this all to be quite interesting, and I await further developments, but at the time it seems the price has mostly recovered from the small crash and panic this caused, and most of the panic was caused by incorrect wording in US articles, stating that this "banned" BTC in china, which is not true. It did, however, make it so bitcoin "not having sex with mandatory legal tender currency property" haha... so no Chinese currency/BTC babies?? Tell me what you think bitcitizens. 5mil

Serbian municipalities learned from Hungary?

"Few days ago, Hungarian government decided to destroy fields of GMO corn. Something more than 1000 acres have been ploughed. Deputy state secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development of Hungary, Lajos Bognar, said that GMO seeds are banned in Hungary, and that any further planting of GMO seeds will be considered a felony. Unlike many EU countries, Hungary has forbidden GMO, and is planning to make distribution of GMO seeds a felony.
Photo from: thescientistgardener.blogspot.com

GMO main distributor, Monsanto, is struggling with governments in order to get the license to sell seeds. Monsanto claims that substance which is implemented in the seeds and which is killing the vermin who attack the plants, will diminish until ripening of the plant, so that fruits/vegetables are safe for humans.
Hungarian farmers, who planted the seeds, hoped that they will be compensated for destroying their crops, but the company that provided them the seeds is under liquidation. What’s worse, it is too late for them to replant crops, since the time for sowing has passed.
In Serbia, situation is a bit different. Most known plant used by farmers is soy. Though some number of municipalities have adopted regulations about GMO ban, some farmers are still sowing GMO seeds. As one of the farmers in Serbia said: ” We know it’s illegal, but, if you choose ordinary seed, you have to prepare lot of money for pesticides. GMO seeds do not need later treatment with chemicals and that saves our money.”
Perhaps they are right, that maybe saves money, but according to some tests, it won’t save their health, crushed by consuming GMO products. Some scientific tests have shown that generations of rats in third generation after using GMO food are becoming infertile. Also, many health problems, such as cancer, are usual problem for rats fed with GMO food.

d7 poool chat

(18:17:39) beavis: np :)
(19:12:18) jojino: irish: thanks. so, basically, when I run the commands on the wallet it will "generate" interests, right? What CPU load does that require? (almost nothing I presume?)
(19:22:34) irish: I believe nothing, or very little. I tried asking the same question and never really got a straight answer.
(19:23:48) irish: But yes, with a min of 30 days coin age you have a chance.
(19:32:54) jojino: chance of 0.1% interest, right? :D
(19:33:42) jojino: but... if I have a locked wallet, and I'm minting, what happens if I want to receive more coins? :O
(19:38:22) jojino: namecoind had the option--generate, I wonder is ppcoind has the same? Anyway, I have 20 coins, are my chances too small?
(19:41:36) irish: You still receive coins. It's based on coin age. so your quantity:20 - 30 day old coins have coin age of 600. I think ;o) You can still receive/send coins. The generate option is there, but it's for proof of work blocks not proof of stake.
(19:43:28) irish: As to the .1% I would guess it's some modifier of coin days so that approximate yearly interest is 1%. I don't know much more than that.
(19:51:11) jojino: so, basically, it's based on average luck, just as here
(19:52:04) irish: Probably lol. I'm not sure. If you find out let me know ;o)
(19:52:48) jojino: That's what I read :)
(19:52:58) jojino: anyway, we are stretching it
(19:55:20) irish: Yeah luck turned around pretty well today. Hopefully a couple more so we balance out the 7 day luck.
(19:56:23) jojino: I loike these lower difficulties.
(21:15:18) Lanarchy: boo, 570 PPC = 1 BTC
(00:25:41) cqcqcqcq8539: 15!
(01:15:18) jojino: 15! = 1307674368000
(03:33:59) jojino: I need help: I renamed a file in the /home/me/.ppcoin with size of 610304 Bytes by an accident (Ubuntu did it)... can anyone tell me what was the name of the file? There are .lock, blk001.dat, blkindex.dat, db.log, debug, log, wallet.dat
(03:34:43) jojino: much thanks in advance
(03:38:28) chemicstry: I only see addr.dat which is 839680B on my machine
(03:38:32) chemicstry: others >1mb
(03:40:33) jojino: ah, thank you, o, mighty god of d7!
(03:46:58) chemicstry: second part wasn't necessary :D
(04:27:37) jojino: you are the BOFH, here, BOFHs be praised ;-) ...I wonder how "BOFH" became synomym with allmighty being...
(04:51:05) daggeteo: finally some luck to compensate the last days performance. Karma rewards the patient one
(04:55:46) mkiller88: ...
(05:14:33) daggeteo: think I jinxed it there? :p
(06:00:30) jojino: new block?
(06:02:09) jojino: This is funny: my Unconfirmed Rewards increased and I don't know why, we didn't find any new block :O
(06:27:11) mkiller88: mine is ok
(07:23:25) egwspiti: today i had an incoming transfer from vpool.us xD
(07:23:53) egwspiti: i was mining there some time ago but stopped when i read that they were scammers
(07:24:11) egwspiti: and today i had an incoming transfer from them :)
(08:00:27) avult: anyone mine ppc on a mac by chance?
(09:02:25) jojino: avult: what is a mac? ;-) no... mac operations need specific compile, I guess you have to compile cgminer from scratch, ...maybe there is a bin ready, but I'm not sure...
(09:03:59) jojino: All: is this one of those 8-hour rounds?
(09:22:16) irish: egwspiti Yeah I've had a few from them also. I quit when I noticed that they were either scamming or had really incorrect pplns settings.
(09:26:45) jojino: I'm thinking... somehow slush pool counted me 1 share even when I was not mining, it was sometimes before finding of a block. I suspect it may have been because I had connected cgminer to it, it was just not mining. What if I connected 100 miners just checking the pool, would it accidentally just increase my share?
(09:33:38) knedle: maybe you were mining, but you didn't notice? I have 5 computers from one location mining ob 50btc and d7 as fail safe, one of them switches to d7 from-time to time even though 50btc is running and no other computer des that
(09:33:42) knedle: *does
(09:47:20) jojino: well, the miner was completely disable, all it did was to display the difficulty... and as I viewed the statistics I saw 1 satoshi worth of BTC and 1 share of a round. It may be an Intel Pentium rounding error feature (c).
(09:56:57) jojino: Oh my! Did I invent a method how aggregate 1GHa/s ona single HD7950?
(10:01:27) mkiller88: =))
(10:10:10) jojino: wait... now I think I might have been 600MHa/s + 400kHa/s ... but the cgminer displayer 400MHa/s by an error :P
(10:10:44) jojino: I'll try to combine different worksize parameters...
(10:12:51) jojino: worksize 64 at intensity 5 is ~3x the WU per minute compared to worksize 128 :O
(10:13:38) jojino: and it even sucks off more MHa/s from the main worker which has I=10, ws=256
(10:14:10) jojino: despite the drop in Mhash/s the main worker has the same or better WU/minute
(10:16:45) jojino: sum =641MHa/s :) compared to 620 before
(10:16:59) craslovell: are you trying to run two instances of cgminer, one for scrypt and one for sha-256?
(10:20:03) jojino: no, 6 instances of sha-256
(10:20:32) jojino: slightly different settings, 2 networks (5xBTC, 1xPPC)
(10:20:51) jojino: now luck has returned to PPC, so I'm shifting Intensity to the PPC worker
(10:57:24) jojino: Professional deformation: when you read cgminer manual and it says: "GPU 1: 73.5C 2552RPM" and you immediately start to panick.
(11:23:08) AMGOMG: Awww yea
(11:41:45) jojino: Bob the builder saves the party!
(11:56:51) mkiller88: .
(12:34:49) mkiller88: 182.3% Luck
(12:34:55) mkiller88: this is something
(12:46:07) jojino: shh, shh!
(12:46:50) jojino: on the other hand, I fail to get more than 1.1PPC/round even if my hashrate is up to 630 now
(12:53:16) foober251: Im at 1ghash and i get 3ppc / round
(12:54:10) foober251: value of cryptocurrency sinking tho, gotta ride it out
(13:26:16) craslovell: jojino, whats your amount of shares solved per min?
(13:26:32) craslovell: i would think you should be getting somewhere around U:10/m
(13:50:20) mkiller88: .
(13:57:07) myrond: yeah I'm getting 60-70 per block currently; you should be getting more
(14:04:20) mkiller88: .
(14:04:56) mkiller88: witch is more important U/min or WU/min ?
(14:06:20) mkiller88: i have U:3.5/m and WU:8.5/m
(14:06:29) mkiller88: .
(14:26:29) jojino: WU is the actual points, the U is the raw, I guess you are doing difficulty 4, right?
(14:26:47) jojino: I'm doing WU=10.5 for the last 8 minutes
(14:26:51) mkiller88: no 1
(14:27:06) mkiller88: now i have WU 8/m
(14:27:17) mkiller88: and u 6/m
(14:27:19) jojino: not posssible :) At difficulty 2 I have U=4, WU=8
(14:27:39) jojino: yay, I'm better, but I have no clue why! :(
(14:27:41) mkiller88: i mining with 600Mh/s
(14:27:53) jojino: 618MH/s
(14:28:41) mkiller88: in the pool settings i have set min diff to 1
(14:28:57) jojino: such a small difference is not the explanation of my rate skyrocketing... I had WU=8.8 at ~602MHa/s, I did some changes and voila! up to 11.5
(14:29:46) jojino: mkiller: set to min, but what does the cgminer say? "Accepted ABCD1234 Diff 1/2 GPU0" ?
(14:30:29) jojino: Difficulty minimum means "do not give me tasks less difficult than this"
(14:30:40) mkiller88: Accepted 14e19f78 Diff 12/10 GPU 0
(14:31:06) jojino: 12/10??? you have difficulty 10? :D you have some strong setup there! :D
(14:31:10) mkiller88: Accepted 06cbf37e Diff 37/10 GPU 0
(14:31:21) mkiller88: i have one 7950
(14:31:51) mkiller88: i use this flags -v 1 -w 256 -I 7
(14:32:31) jojino: yup, Difficulty 10, the stratum isn't stupid? or... maybe it is. Plus... it takes your WHOLE workqueue to spend to see any effect of changing difficulty settings.
(14:32:50) jojino: At Diff 10 it may take 10 minutes easily
(14:33:19) craslovell: you guys should be using diff 1 for your hashrates
(14:33:26) jojino: My WU is finally dropping to 9.0
(14:33:56) jojino: cras: we are, but his settings may teke some time to take effect
(14:34:38) craslovell: yeah once the worker is changed poolside to use diff 1, shouldn't take more than 5 mins and a relaunch of cgminer to correct
(14:36:07) jojino: craslovell: I believe it has to take the whole workqueue, which at diff 10 may take also 20 minutes.. I never tried, but diff2 -> diff1 takes 5-10 minutes
(14:36:44) mkiller88: jojino what flags do you use?
(14:36:56) jojino: three lines long
(14:37:03) jojino: :)
